Is McCain in the loop?

BAJ: Thanks for the reference. It just confirms what I have always suspected about John McCain. What a jerk!

In an interview today with members of the press, McCain was pressed on, among other things, Sarah Palin, and whether she was helping the ticket. He insisted she was, that she was enormously popular, and that “everyone” liked her. When it was suggested to him that perhaps that was not the case he responded by saying he hadn’t heard that. As the polls have been going down for McCain/Palin, and as part of that is said to be the negative reaction to her, and as quite a few conservatives have been very critical, even suggesting she should drop out of the campaign, what does one make of McCain’s statement? Is he out of the loop? Is it that he does not himself read or watch television, depending upon his staff to clue him in, and they are failing to tell him the truth? Is he simply in a state of complete denial, refusing to believe what is happening? Is he just out of touch with reality? Or does he just assume that the “base” likes her and that is “everyone” as far as he is concerned? I found his statement to be strange indeed.

He also assured his interviewers that he has always been 100% truthful, even insisting that Obama did, in fact, try to start sex education in kindergarten. As he also repeats the lie over and over again that Obama intends to raise everyone’s taxes, and that Palin stopped the bridge to nowhere, can we really believe he is completely honest (as if anyone would believe such a thing in the first place).

Well, as expected, the Senate passed the Bailout bill (now called the “Rescue” or some other euphemism) 74 to 25. This was expected. Now it goes to the House. In the present form it has added something like 150 billion dollars worth of pork, specifically to appeal to House Republicans. So it is actually worse than it was in the beginning. They will try to force the House of accept it because otherwise the world will come to an end (no one will be able to get any credit). This is bad because of course no one has any money anymore so we all have to depend upon credit. I have long maintained that credit card interest is basically the functional equivalent of slavery, the only real difference being that they are not permitted to whip us or otherwise physically abuse us for falling behind. Under the circumstances I suppose there really is not much of an alternative except to pass some kind of bill that will help the credit market. It would be nice if we could make this temporary and try to wean ourselves from this destructive credit system (I doubt there is any possibility of that ever happening). I am old enough to remember when we didn’t have credit cards. Ice cream cones were a nickel, hamburgers a dime, cigarettes, also about a dime, gasoline about twenty cents a gallon, and etc. Somehow we managed to get along. Yeah, yeah, I know, just myths about “the good old days.” There were drawbacks, of course, but bankruptcy was not as common and shopping and consumption were not regarded as ends in themselves. Oh, well, that was long ago. Will the House members give in to the pressure from the White House and Senate, or will they give in to the enormous amount of negative public opinion generated by this gigantic corporate scam? We won’t know until Friday.

The Brafia is so worried about Palin’s lack of knowledge and her potential failure in the coming debate they are already making excuses for her. Gwen Iffil, the moderator, is writing a book about black politicisns so they are crying foul already. Iffil is also a woman but they don’t count that as a plus. Do you think they would object if she was writing a book about female politicians? Rest assured, if Palin is still on her feet and breathing at the end of the 90 minutes it will be counted a runaway victory. “Joe Six Pack for VP” will appear on bumper stickers on every pickup truck in Idaho.

LKBIQ:

I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.
