President Obama and Benjamin Netanyahu met face to face this morning for the first time. How I wish I could have been a fly on the wall. Naturally they posed for pictures and claimed to have made progress, but I wonder what really transpired between these two who claim, at least, to have diametrically opposed ideas about an Israeli/Palestinian peace. Obama and virtually all the rest of the world wants a two state solution. Netanyahu has said he does not. Netanyahu says Iran’s (supposed) nuclear threat should be dealt with first. Obama says peace talks should proceed first. Netanyahu wants to believe the status quo between the U.S. and Israel should continue, with the U.S. giving them 3 billion or more a year, and not questioning what they do. Obama, reportedly, is going to insist the U.S. will decide itself on its best interest and not just follow wherever Israel wants to lead, and he will no longer just give them a blank check. Netanyahu wants all of Jerusalem, Obama wants part of it for the Palestinians. Netanyahu does not want to deal with Hamas, Obama apparently does. Obama wants peace in the Middle East, Netanyahu wants permanent strife because otherwise the Israelis would have to give back their stolen land, and give up their racism. I believe that Obama is going to have world public opinion on his side in this argument, but when has Israel given two cents for world opinion? It is going to be most interesting to see how this plays out over the next two or three years. Will Obama, on his great white stallion, bring peace to the Middle East, or will the Israeli Black Hand prevail once again?

It is becoming more and more apparent that we will never know for certain if the CIA lied to Congress or not…because the CIA apparently does not know itself what it said, to whom, and when. Personally, I have no doubt this is a deliberate policy of the CIA. They have never been open and honest about their doings around the world, and the idea they would not lie is so naïve as to be absurd. And the evidence mounts every day that Dick Cheney was the moving force behind the torture. We will never know for certain what the truth is unless all the relevant documents are made public. As Pelosi seems eager to have them all made public, and confident she will prevail, you can be pretty sure they won’t be.

In a strange interview tonight on the Colbert Report, John McCain’s quite attractive 24 year-old daughter, announced that she was pro-sex, pro gay marriage, and pro choice. Actually, I’m not quite sure about the pro choice, she might have said pro-life. The reason I can’t remember for certain is that I am still puzzling about what is meant by pro-sex. I should think that quite a dangerous statement for an attractive woman as she will probably get propositioned by every male that heard it. Steven asked her if Republicans procreated differently from most people, like, maybe mitosis, but she didn’t really answer. I think what she thought she was saying is that she is anti-abstinence only, but that would seem to be quite a different thing. Of course when she proclaimed she was proud to be a Republican I dismissed her as just another air-head. I wonder how it is there are so many young, blond, air-headed women who claim to be Republicans? I think Democrats should hold a meeting and vote to re-name the Republican Party the “White Cracker Party,” which would be pretty descriptive of what they really are, Michael Steele notwithstanding.
